If it costs you your Sundays, is it worth it...?

Hello beautiful soul

When did you last have a Sunday that felt like ✨Sunday✨?

Not the one that came after Saturday morning was quietly swallowed by your inbox. Not the one where the dread arrives at four o'clock like it always does β€” that low hum in your chest that builds until you are sitting at dinner with people you love and you are there but not really there.

I mean a Sunday that actually unfolds.

Where you noodle into things. Where you read something just because. Where time moves differently and you let it. Where nobody needs anything from you and you are not performing okay β€” you just actually are.

When was that? Real question.

Because I know you darling.

You are good at your job. Genuinely, demonstrably, everybody-knows-it good. You advocated brilliantly for someone on your team last month. You knew the numbers. You made the case. You got it across the line.

And then you went home in silence.

Because the draft you wrote asking for your own review is still sitting in your drafts. Has been for weeks. You open it sometimes. You close it again.

You rehearsed your comment through the entire meeting and then opened with "this might be a silly question but."

You google salary ranges at 11pm sometimes. Not because you are leaving. Just to feel sane.

And every Sunday at four o'clock, without fail, the dread.

I want to say something about that dread that I do not think gets said enough.

This is not a confidence problem. It is a safety problem.

Your body has spent years learning that taking up space the way you deserve to take up space is not without risk. That wanting more has consequences. That asking too directly or wanting too visibly disrupts something. And so your nervous system does exactly what it was designed to do β€” it keeps you safe by keeping you quiet. Not because you are weak. Because you are intelligent. Because that system has kept you belonging, and belonging has always felt like survival.

But here is the thing about safety.

Most of us have been looking for it in completely the wrong place.

We look for it in the situation. In whether the other person is going to react well. In whether the timing is right, whether the room is warm enough, whether we have enough evidence yet to justify the ask. We outsource our safety to conditions we cannot control. And then we wonder why we never quite feel safe enough to go.

I was in a coaching session this week where something shifted in real time. My client was talking about feeling unsafe β€” about a situation where the outcome was not hers to control and the pressure of that was making her hesitate, procrastinate, shrink.

And I said something that I want to say to you now:

"I am safe when I am in integrity with myself. I am safe when I do not leave myself behind."

Not when the situation is safe. Not when the other person responds well. Not when the timing is perfect.

When I am in integrity with myself.

I know this from my own experience. I was in a situation recently with a corporate client where I had to do something I really did not want to do. The outcome was not mine to change. But how I showed up inside it β€” that was entirely mine. And I chose to do it with as much love and honesty as I could bring. That choice did not change the result. But I walked away in integrity with myself.

And that is the only place safety actually lives.

Now let me give you an analogy that I come back to again and again with the women I work with, when it comes to self esteem and not leaving yourself behind.

I landed on this analogy when I was working with a client who asked me: "With all the work I have been doing, I can feel myself taking a different shape. But how do I hold that shape under pressure?"

I want you to think of yourself as a can. Stay with me on this.

Think about a full can of soda versus an empty one.

A full can cannot be crushed. You can apply pressure, lean on it, squeeze it β€” it holds. An empty can crumples the moment anything lands on it.

And here is what I want to ask you honestly: How full is your can right now?

Because if you have been giving everything outward β€” to your team, your family, your organisation, everyone who needs something from you β€” and running on the fumes of your own depletion, your can is not full. And an empty can cannot hold its shape when pressure or criticism lands. It just crumples. Quietly. In a way that looks like fine from the outside.

What fills the can is not confidence in the way we usually talk about it.

It is integrity and being full of your SELF. The settled, embodied, nobody-can-talk-me-out-of-it knowing that you are in alignment with your SELF. That you know what you want. That you are willing to ask for it. That you know the value that you bring. That your yes means yes and your no means no and your number is your number and you are not going to soften it one more time.

That is what makes you uncollapsable darling. That's what means you can always hold your new shape.

And here is what I want you to understand about Sunday.

Sunday feels like dread because something in you knows that you are not yet living in full integrity with what you actually want. That gap β€” between what you know you are worth and what you are currently accepting β€” does not just cost you money or momentum or the title you deserve.

It costs you your Sundays.

So here is what I want to offer you this week. Not a program. Not a pitch. A place to start.

I have built a FREE Career Freedom Review β€” a ten minute GPT that coaches you through exactly where you are most blocked right now. It covers the Five Career Freedoms β€” Pay, Promotion, Progression, Peace and Pivot β€” and it will give you something specific and honest to do with whatever you have been sitting on.

It is FREE. It is built from everything I know about the women I work with. And it will tell you where your can is emptiest right now.

Go and try it here: careerfreedom.ruthpenfold.com

Let's get your Sunday feeling like ✨Sunday✨ baby.

Rooting for you always

Baby girl, the world needs your special blend of HERo πŸ”₯
Hello beautiful soul I need the current you to take a back seat on this one baby, because I want to speak to the future you this week.Β  Because I want to talk about HERoism today. Not the kind with a cape. Not the kind that requires you to be fearless or unbroken or any of the other things we have been sold as the price of being worth something. The kind that lives in the word itself. The word...
The invisible cage we all need to be able to spot πŸ«₯
Hello beautiful soul One of the main vision statements for my company is this: that women are safe, serene, sacred, sublime and therefore surrendered. Surrendered β€” not to another person. Not to a system. Not to a story someone else wrote about who you are supposed to be. Surrendered to yourself. To something greater. To the version of you that was there before the world got its hands on you. ...
We have never been this version of woman before πŸ§žβ€β™€οΈ
Hello beautiful soul We have never been this version of "woman" before, so is it any wonder that some parts of it feel hard...? I want you to sit with that for a moment before we go anywhere else. Never. This version. Before. Ever.Β  To illustrate that a little, let me take you back. Before the structures that we now call "normal" were built, before the systems and the hierarchies and the rules...
